Phyllis Saddle Hand Bag

£275.00

This little bag is a cute addition to my Reborn section. Made entirely from the repurposed leather of an old saddle, these bags will only be available as and when I come across saddle leather to work with and each will be unique. The design is a spin off of my Eva bag, but in a slightly smaller size.

The body and sides are made from the side skirts of the saddle and the straps from the girth straps, it really is a celebration of the saddle and wonderful, patina that it has gained over so many years of use. The saddle used was at least 40 years old and well loved, having been lovingly cared for until it was no longer fit for use. The bag fastens with a new brass buckle and has a double thickness base.

This little bag, as all of my products are named about animals I have owned or loved. This bag is named Phyllis, after my mums horse of a lifetime and has the same attributes, beautiful, fun and well loved for a lifetime. She was a Connemara mare with the biggest heart and even more attitude. My first ever time on a horse was at 6 months old, held in my mums arms, on Phyllis. My mum taught myself and my two sisters how to ride on her and Phyllis then taught us skills she thought we may need in the future too. She could accelerate like a fit thoroughbred and then stop like she was in a wild west film, hopping to a stand still. She was fast, she was fun and instilled a love of horses in me that I will carry forever.

As part of my commitment to slow fashion, my bags come with a lifetime guarantee on all stitching and fastenings.

I only use the highest grade of leather, full grain leather that will display natural imperfections such as marks, scars and character from the hand dying processes, making each piece truly unique.

Everything I make is entirely handmade by me with locally, ethically sourced and sustainably tanned leather and materials with a focus on traditional craftsmanship, quality and longevity. Using traditional saddlery techniques and saddle stitching which ensures a stronger, more durable stitch than machine stitching, as it creates a knot with every stitch.

I aim for my products to be heirloom pieces that can last a lifetime, to ensure this each of my products come with a lifetime guarantee on all stitching and fastenings… Made to wear in, not out. Read more about my process here…
